Unpublished letters of Dr Moeenuddin Aqueel written to Dr. Unus Hasani

Abstract

The tradition of letters writing in Urdu literature has been very strong. To make this tradition reliable and firm at least every writer of Urdu language and literature participated in it. Prof. Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel also wrote thousand letters to famous personalities of literature time to time. In this article his twelve unpublished selected letters; written to his old associate and colleague Prof. Dr. Unus Hasani, are being presented. Of course, these letters depict in the best way the internal political, social, and educational situation of Urdu Department University of Karachi.

Professor Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel wrote these letters from Japan during his stay. These letters also illustrate customs, systems of educational institutions, and living system of Japan. These letters also give us impact of journey account. These letters show his beautiful private and hidden life’s glimpses, which were unknown to readers of literature, because they were not became ornament of any page before.  Beside this distinguished personalities of Urdu literature poets, writers, critics, researchers, compilers and students were also became topic of discussion. Those remarkable creative works which had been doing in literary world in those days, and their achievements can be witnessed continuously in these letters.

For understanding Professor Dr. Moinuddin Aqeel’s these letters in context properly, the writer has contributed short interpretations. These letters surely beneficial for thoughtful personalities, researchers and students.
