Abstract

Allusion means an estranged glimpse of something. Allusion is infact a term related to the art of eloquence and meaning. An historical incident is mentioned through a single word or a group of words in order to create eloquence and meaning in speech. Altaf Hussain Haali is a great Urdu poet. His renowned poem “Musaddas-e-Haali” reflects the national, political, sociological, ethical and the historical situations of the Muslims in a befitting manner. In his long poem, Haali has focussed on the poetical tradition of using allusions in Urdu and has expressed this particular aspect in a meaningful way. This essay presents a study regarding allusions in Musaddas e Haali.
